Autumn is here at Hambledon Wine Estate. Leaves are falling from the trees, grapes are being handpicked and delivered to the winery and the hedgerows are bejewelled with sloes and rosehips.
Suddenly, we’re watching the sunset from the terrace again as we wait for dinner service to begin; we’re lighting our fireplaces, settling down with a glass of wine, and listening to the crunch of leaves underfoot as we stroll through the countryside.
Here are a few of our favourite things about Autumn at Hambledon Wine Estate.
Colourful Horizons
Almost overnight, verdant vineyard vistas transform into a fleetingly beautiful sea of amber. Lasting only a couple of weeks, it’s the last breaths of summer that put on a real show, as wildlife prepares to hibernate and a special kind of peace descends over the estate.
Harvest Season
Harvest season is our favourite season here at Hambledon, bringing with it an electric atmosphere unlike anything else. It’s the culmination of a year of vineyard work and the start of another winemaking year. It’s the time when we see what the 2026 growing season has produced and begin to define the character of the wines to be released in three, four, or more years to come.
Though it’s a period of hard work and long hours, it’s also a time when people come together with a sense of camaraderie like never before.

New Produce
As with any new season, autumn brings with it new produce. From sweet squash in abstract shapes, to juicy pink-hued figs and earthy Jerusalem artichokes, there’s a whole world of flavour which wakes up as the world winds down. Our kitchen garden provides endless inspiration to our talented team of chefs as it offers up a whole world of new produce.
Whether you’re enjoying long walks in the countryside, punctuated by berry-picking stops, perusing the offerings lining the shelves of your local farm shop, or indulging in a meal at The Restaurant, there are endless ways to relish in the unique flavours of autumn.
A Season to Celebrate
Autumn, for many, marks the start of a season of celebration. As the nights grow darker, these celebrations provide a source of lightness, whether you yourself are raising a glass to the end of harvest, are eagerly awaiting Halloween, Bonfire Night or something else entirely; there’s always something to look forward to.

After such a long, hot summer, cosy nights in are more welcome than ever. Between those extra couple of hours at night to get lost in a good book, enjoy that box set you’ve been meaning to catch up on, or enjoy cosy, candlelit dinners with friends and family, every occasion is worth elevating with a glass of English sparkling wine or an international bottle from our Cellar Door Shop.
Though many might be sad to see the end of the summer, we can’t help but be excited for what comes next.
