Introducing:

The English Cuvée

Life's the occasion

 We've been keeping a secret...

Meet the newest personality in the Hambledon family. The English Cuvée is fresh, fruit-forward and full of spirited energy, an English sparkling wine made not just for a special occasion, but for right now.

Whether English sparkling wine is a firm favourite or completely new to you, this is a glass made to be enjoyed, no expertise required. If you wanted to get to know us, this is exactly how we'd introduce ourselves: it's those effervescent moments with friends that are so easy to get lost in, the unrestrained laughter of a long-overdue catch-up, captured and corked or simply for a Tuesday night where a glass of sparkling is required.

In short? It's made for sharing, savouring and celebrating, as life's the occasion.

What's in the bottle?

Our chalk-grown Chardonnay is the beating heart of this wine, bringing bright, fresh energy, complemented by the rounded character of Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. After just over two years resting on its lees, it's had all the time it needs to develop real depth of flavour, texture and complexity before it reaches your glass.

Expect ripe pear and apricot on the nose, followed by a touch of sweet brioche. The palate is rounded, mouth-filling and fruit-forward; fresh, smooth and always leaving you wanting more.

Hambledon is

The Birthplace of English Wine

England's chalky South Downs is among the finest sparkling wine-growing land in the world, and Hambledon sits at the heart of it. Established in 1952, we're widely recognised as the birthplace of English wine, the first estate to plant Chardonnay in England back in the 1970s. The English Cuvée brings all of that heritage into a style that asks nothing of you except to enjoy it. Consider it your introduction to English sparkling wine, and to us.

the story behind the label

Look closely and you'll find our home embossed into the bottle. Our label is inspired by the wildflowers and plants growing between the vines at Hambledon, ox-eye daisies, cornflowers, dandelion, willowherb, wild marjoram and more, beautifully illustrated on a chalk-toned palette.

These cover crops matter enormously to our Vineyard Manager, Nick Cran-Crombie, helping to improve soil health and support biodiversity across the estate. Framing our wine with them felt like the truest way to convey a sense of where it comes from.

food pairings

best served with

There's an age-old friendship between food and wine, and The English Cuvée is no exception. It's equally at home by itself or alongside a hearty meal, it’s a versatile character that fits any celebration.

For something simple, pour it with cheese straws, a salty, savoury favourite that's easy to make (or buy); crisps and a whipped pecorino dip – both work beautifully with the wine's bright, fresh acidity.

dinner to cook at home

from our chef

Or, for a dinner to remember, our Executive Chef at Hambledon, Rob McLeary has created the perfect recipe to enjoy at home:

"Sustainably caught cod with confit potatoes, pancetta and samphire."

It's a decadently rich dish that makes the most of seasonal ingredients, guaranteed to impress your guests while being a breeze to make (and enjoy).

where to find

The English Cuvée is now on shelves nationwide from October 2026, available in selected Waitrose and Sainsbury's stores. Whether it's a gift for someone you love or a treat for yourself, celebrate with a sip of the South Downs this autumn.

And if you ever needed an excuse — life's the occasion.
