Introducing: De Fermo Wines at the Cellar Door Shop

Introducing: De Fermo Wines at the Cellar Door Shop

Founded by Stefano Papetti and Eloisa de Fermo, its story is one of serendipity. When Stefano visited the vineyards for the first time in 2007, he stumbled upon an abandoned winery, dating back to 1785. He saw it as a sign.

After restoring the winery, he and Eloisa took over the estate, and converted it to a biodynamic farming system, with a holistic philosophy.

Their Estate

Located in the hills of Abruzzo overlooking the Adriatic, De Fermo is a small family-run estate led by Stefano Papetti and Eloisa de Fermo. The estate follows a holistic approach to farming, viewing vineyard, woodland and wider agriculture as part of one interconnected ecosystem.

Combining organic and biodynamic principles with minimal intervention in the cellar, De Fermo produces wines with purity, texture and a strong sense of place, whilst maintaining a deep commitment to preserving the natural balance of the land.

Why De Fermo?

Farming With Nature

De Fermo are committed to nurturing the land that they farm, focusing on long-term soil vitality and ecological balance within their vineyards. Organic and biodynamic principles are applied across the estate, minimising human intervention to preserve the health of soil, vine and ecosystem alike.

The More, The Merrier

Their farming methods are designed to support natural biodiversity, with the integration of vineyard, woodland and surrounding farmland. De Fermo is not a monoculture, with vines growing among olives, grains, legumes and trees to support natural biodiversity. They also focus on preserving indigenous Abruzzese grape varieties, which are both culturally and environmentally important.

Waste Not, Want Not

Their winemaking style shows a clear preference for low-impact production methods and restrained winemaking, with minimal intervention cellar practices and the use of concrete and neutral vessels to preserve purity and freshness in the wines.

Social Responsibility:

Above all, they are a family-led estate with a long-term commitment to the region and preserving its agricultural identity, through a transparent and thoughtful approach to farming and production.
