Introducing: Fattoria la Rivolta

Introducing: Fattoria la Rivolta

Introducing the Ninth ‘Friend of Hambledon’: Fattoria la Rivolta —  available in the Cellar Door Shop now.

Situated in the Benevento hills of Campania, Fattoria La Rivolta is a family-run estate founded by the Cotroneo family with a strong commitment to organic farming and the preservation of southern Italy’s indigenous grape varieties

Working primarily with Aglianico, Falanghina, Greco and Fiano, the estate combines modern precision with respect for traditional viticulture and the surrounding landscape. Their wines capture both the richness and freshness of the region, whilst reflecting a long-term commitment to sustainable agriculture and regional identity.

Their Estate

Spanning across 60 Hectares, Fattoria la Rivolta puts their entire focus into regional grape varieties- half of which are managed with an Espalier system, the other as ancient radial vineyards.

The company grows grapes in a 100% certified-organic way, and their vineyards are a place where nature is free to flourish alongside cultivated agriculture. What's more, all processes are undertaken in-house, from manual harvesting to vinification and storage. In fact, their winery is a 19th century farm building restored to its former glory, as part of a wider project to restore the ancient human footprint in the Sannio region.

Why Fattoria la Rivolta?

Farming With Nature
As a certified organic estate, it goes without saying that they care deeply for the fruit that they cultivate. A key part of their mission as an estate is the preservation of the long-term health of their terroir, from the regeneration of Campanian grape varieties, to respect for the flora and fauna of their sites and the preservation of their culture and history alike.

The More, The Merrier
Far from a monoculture, their estate plays host to a range of regional grape varieties, such as Aglianico, Falanghina, and Coda di Volpe, the latter of which was near extinct until just a few years ago. This variety in their vineyards allows their terroir to thrive and showcases the region's best indigenous varieties. Alongside this, they are home to a small but significant production of extra virgin olive oil.

Waste Not, Want Not

The estate puts careful winery management with a focus on quality and restraint at the heart of its operations. Utilising the buildings dotted around their landscape, built centuries ago, they operate very much in harmony with their environment. Working with what the land has given them, their production favours wines that express freshness and regional character with minimal intervention.

Social Responsibility

Since their conception, this family-led business has been rooted in the local community- which has not only spurred on a true devotion to the land and preservation of Campania's historic grape varieties and wine culture.
