International Women's Day 2023: Our Perfect Pairings

International Women's Day 2023: Our Perfect Pairings

To the team at Hambledon vineyard, International Women's Day is a once-yearly opportunity to appreicate the plethora of female talent on our team. From production, to finance, to hospitality and marketing, all of the exceptional men and women here at Hambledon Vineyard, we strive for equality and to close the gaps that are all too prevalent in the wine industry.

The women who contribute so much to our team here at Hambledon Vineyard are undoubtedly experts in their fields and we want to celebrate the passion and drive that propels them to keep our growing business running. So, for International Women's Day 2023, we raised a glass to all of the women in our business and sat down with some of them to discuss which Hambledon Vineyard Cuvée was in their glass, what they would pair it with and why?

Anna Krits-Kellett- Owner

Wine is constantly evolving and tastes different every day.

Today, my favourite wine is Hambledon Zero Dosage Rosé. Over the last few years, it has gained layers of complexity on the nose and palate. It has a beautiful structure, a very assertive personality combined with a velvety mousse.

On this cold IWD evening, I plan to serve it with Duck Roast accompanied by baked figs and pecans.

Katherine Fromm- General Manager

I'd have to say Classic Cuvée, because you can drink it anytime of the year, it’s a great bottle or glass to celebrate with for any occasion.

Whether that is in summer in the sun, or in the winter by the fire, it's a versatile bottle that suits any reason you might have to open it.

Victoria Zeffert- Financial Controller

We last enjoyed a bottle of Hambledon Vineyard's Première Cuvée- definitely a special occasion wine.

The reason we opened this was to welcome in my best friend's new baby Phoenix Fox, it was a bubbly excitable affair and made a delightful pairing, and surely one we'll remember!

Aude Villebrun- Brand Director

My favourite cuvée has to be the Classic Cuvée Rosé. In particular, I love to share it with my mum, because I know she loves to drink it too.

I recently paired this with a prawn, apple and mint salad, dressed with fish sauce and lime, and loved the combination.

Hannah Marks- Wine Club Manager

I struggle to pick a favourite as every time I drink any of them they are my favourite again. I love how delicate the Classic Cuvée Rosé is, with soft flavours of strawberries and a bit of rhubarb and a really subtle creaminess. It is exactly what I look for in a Sparkling rose.

The Classic Cuvée is just that. Classic. It is fresh and vibrant with a polished brioche finish. The Première is just such a beautiful wine, slightly richer, more toasty and such a treat!

I absolutely love the Rosé on a summer’s day in the garden with a tapas style lunch with friends. Or the Classic Cuvée with smoked salmon for a celebratory breakfast. Or the Première  Cuvée with fish and chips on a Saturday evening in with my Husband. I just can't pick one!

Caron Fanshawe- Tours & Education Manager

My favourite is definitely Hambledon Première Cuvée. The complexity on the palate reflects the building of the base wine, long maturation period on the lees and oak aged reserve wines in the blend. I love the sweet spice on the finish and the minerality reflecting our outstanding chalk soil.

I’ve enjoyed the Première with smoked salmon, as the fresh acidity pairs beautifully with the richness of the salmon. Equally it is a great match for any firm white fish such as Turbot or Halibut. We sell a lot of Premiere at Christmas to pair with Turkey; a real treat.

Mary Eagle- Finance Assistant

Though I rarely drink, if I were to indulge in a glass, it would have to be the Classic Cuvée Rosé. It's the perfect bottle to enjoy on those special occasions like birthdays, anniversaries and more, shared with family and friends. It's always enjoyed by all.

Lauren Rose- Marketing and Brand Content Assistant

It's so difficult to choose- I think the wine we drink varies so much by company, occasion and pairing. Of course, I love the Première Cuvée- with a minimum of six years on the lees it has such a depth and complexity balanced by the acid of our chardonnay, which just keeps you coming back for more.

There's so many ways you can pair this, for a lively yet well-dressed apèritif, oysters in hand, complemented with good company, to an extremely self-indulgent night in with a few truffle crisps.

Cleo Gordon- Events Manager

My favourite Hambledon Vineyard Cuvée is our Rosé. I love how fruity and refreshing it is, and to me it really is summer in a bottle.

My favourite way to drink this wine is equally summery- it drinks perfectly in the garden with my family, while we're cooking on the barbecue.

The versatility of our range truly caters to all, including the range of personalities vital to our team here at Hambledon Vineyard.

Cheers to International Women's Day 2023.
