WSET Level 3 Award in Wines is an advanced level qualification for professionals working in the wine industry and for wine enthusiasts. For individuals seeking to delve deeper into the world of wines, this qualification provides a detailed understanding of grape growing and wine making. Upon completion you will be able to assess wines accurately, and use your understanding to confidently explain wine style and quality. 

What you will learn:

Unit 1

  • The key factors in the production of wine: location, grape growing, winemaking, maturation and bottling
  • How these key factors influence the key characteristics of the principal still wines of the world, sparkling wines of the world and fortified wines of the world
    • How to apply your understanding to explain wine style and quality

    Unit 2

    What's included in the Course Fee?

    • All WSET course materials, Study Guide and Full SAT Tasting Card
    • All wine tasting samples (at least 70 wines)
    • The use of professional ISO tasting glasses
    • Professional WSET tuition by a WSET Certified tutor
    • Teaching of the WSET Level 3 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine (SAT) ® which will enable you to analyse wines objectively and consistently in preparation for the tasting exam
    • Registration with WSET and all examination fees
    • Internationally-recognised certificate and pin badge upon successful completion

    £1,150 per person to include all course materials, 30 hours of guided study time, all tasting samples (approximately 70 wines), study materials, lunch (dietary requirements must be communicated at the time of booking) and exam fees.  ISO tasting glasses are provided for the duration of the Course.  

    The classes will take place on six consecutive Saturday sessions – 26th September, 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th and 31st October 2026.

    Please note: this course requires at least 50 hours of private study.

    Study Materials: Students will receive the WSET Level 3 Award in Wines course study pack upon confirmation of their booking. This consists of the course text book (a comprehensive guide to the wines of the world), a study guide (complete with maps, example questions, and forms for your own tasting notes) and laminated tasting card. Students booking within 2 weeks of the course start date, will receive the Study Pack on the first day of the course. 

    Course Delivery: The course has a requirement of a minimum of 30 hours of guided study time with an Approved Programme Provider and at least 50 hours of home study. This is an in-person course, taught at Hambledon Wine Estate, Hampshire. To allow time for registration, the first day of the course begins at 08:45. The subsequent teaching sessions will begin promptly at 09:00. Each day will finish by 17:00.

    There will be a maximum of 12 students on each course.

    Unit 1 is assessed by a closed-book exam of 50 multiple-choice questions and a short-written answer paper. Unit 2 is assessed by a blind tasting of two wines. 

    The exam is sat on the last day of the course. In order to gain an overall pass a candidate must achieve a pass mark of 55 per cent in both the theory and the tasting examination.

    This qualification is regulated by Ofqual.

    Eligability requirements

    This course is primarily open to students who have passed the WSET Level 2 Award in Wines.
    However, if you don't hold this qualification but think you have obtained the relevant knowledge and experience elsewhere, you may be eligible to gain entry.  In this instance, please contact us prior to booking.

    Participation is only available to those over the age of 18. In order to sit the exam, you will need to bring photo ID on the day of the exam.

    We operate a no refund policy on all our tours and events.

    We do not provide refunds for missed events; reservations can only be moved
    once to a different date subject to 2 weeks notice prior to the start date of the booked course. 

    We require a minimum number of bookings to run the course and reserve the right to withdraw the course in the event the minimum number of students is not met.  Should this be the case, we will notify you 2 weeks before the course date.
