Opening The Cellar Door: Interview with Hannah Marks

Opening The Cellar Door: Interview with Hannah Marks

As of 18th June 2025, we were thrilled to welcome guests to our brand new Cellar Door Shop: a dedicated space located down a handcrafted spiral staircase, underneath the Restaurant.

Offering not only our own Hambledon wines and branded merchandise, but also a handpicked selection of wines and spirits from our family, Berry Bros & Rudd and Symington Family Estates. As well as this, we're using the space to showcase the best of local produce, handmade gifts and more.

Read more about the newest addition to our estate in an interview with Hannah Marks, who brought the space to life.

  1. Can you tell us about your role at Hambledon Wine Estate?

I am Community and Retail Manager, which means that I act as liaison to the village and external community making sure that we keep communication lines open and our beautiful village and lovely neighbours are happy. As well as working within our village, I also look after our wonderful community of Members, as both a point of call for them and making sure that every visit and experience is exceptional for them, and most importantly, that they enjoy what the Estate has to offer.

I also look after our Cellar Door which is a very exciting project- with my background in wine retail, it’s amazing to have a space to show off not only Hambledon Wines, but a selection of our lovely family wines, handpicked local produce and gifting items.

  1. Looking ahead to the Cellar Door opening, what are you most excited about?

I just can’t wait to finally have a space to welcome our guests, showcase our wines and other products in a really special shop. Also to work with a group of outstanding local producers and create an environment where we can really showcase what Hampshire and its surrounding counties has to offer.

    3. Can you tell us a bit about how you've sourced the products for the shop and the story behind them?

I wanted to work with producers and small businesses that were local to us, I have come across a fair amount while doing food festivals and external events selling Hambledon and it is so nice to be able to support them and work with them as we have some very talented people in Hampshire that make some incredible products. If they aren’t local they have a story. I have found a wonderful company in Portugal that works with adults with physical and learning disabilities that make the most beautiful ceramics. I wanted to choose special products that will be appreciated by the food and wine lovers that come to visit the Estate

  1. And, what's your favourite product at the moment?

We have two lovely Hambledon oversized tote bags, perfect for a picnic as you can fit quite a few bottles of Hambledon in them!

  1. Do you work with a team in the shop?

We have a fab team, Jim: our Cellar Door Supervisor- a friendly face and point of contact for all things Cellar Door.  As well as Ashley, our Guest Relations Supervisor for all things Customer service and Bex, Heather and Immy our Customer Assistants

  1. What are your interests outside of work?

I am a big fan of eating out and trying new restaurants, which goes hand in hand with wine which is also a big passion of mine. I am also a very big family person and love days out with my little ones.

  1. Anything on your 'dream' stock list for the future?

We still have space for a few more lines, but I do love everything we stock so far.

  1. Finally- favourite bottle of wine in the shop at the moment?

Of course the one and only Hambledon Blanc de Blancs, you can’t beat it. Enough Said.

We're open seven days a week for drop-in shopping, whether you're coming from near or far. So, why not come in and see us?
